Pre-plant an item in some long grass for your dog to find. Walk your dog into the area, and when ready, release your dog to start hunting the area (you can use verbal or whistle commands to encourage your dog to hunt, they should hunt the area confidently). Once your dog finds the item, they should return it to you and deliver it to hand.
